Self-Serve Sweetness puts a small potted apple tree and a picking hand on a stainless steel travel mug with a handle.

A closer look at the art: a potted tree and one reaching hand

The picture sits in an upright panel of very dark green, flat along the bottom and rounded at the top like an arched window. Over that arch, rounded capitals in the same dark green follow the curve and read "SELF-SERVE SWEETNESS".

At the foot of the panel stands an orange terracotta-style flower pot, and out of it grows a small apple tree on a thin, forked brown trunk. Red apples and pale yellow ones hang among mid-green oval leaves, every leaf marked with a lighter vein down its center. Leaves and fruit reach a little past the edge of the panel at the top and sides, and larger leaves fill both bottom corners next to a few small green dots.

From the lower right, a hand and forearm come up and close around the red apple at the very top of the tree. Nobody else is in the picture, only the hand. The idea is easy to read: the fruit is home-grown, so help yourself. It is a flat, modern illustration with soft shading, in dark green, leaf green, apple red, pale yellow, orange and peach.

Made for the garden path and the car ride

Stainless steel is the material, so what you hold is a metal travel mug

The side handle keeps one hand free for the watering can

On the drive to the garden center it rides up front: the base goes into most car cup holders

You get a plastic lid matched to the size you choose

Two prints, one per side, so the tree is in view from either direction

Who it's for

Container gardeners, patio and balcony fruit growers, backyard orchard keepers and anyone who waits all summer for one tree to ripen. It goes along to the community garden, the farmers market or the Saturday run for potting soil. Give it for a gardener's birthday, for Mother's Day, for a retirement that comes with more garden time, or to thank the neighbor who shares the harvest.

Quick answers

How many mugs come in an order?

One.
