Three marks. First cup.

This birder gift mug is for the morning counter: the one who keeps a pencil by the window and tallies every visitor before the coffee cools. Pour, look, count, sip, repeat.

The design: Coffee With a Headcount

A rounded teal frame holds the morning count. Inside, three birds line up facing the same way: a plump black songbird, a slimmer black one with a long tail, and a teal bird with a pointed crest.

Next to them sit three black tally marks, one for each bird. Below the frame, COFFEE WITH A HEADCOUNT is set in bold black capitals over two lines.

Black and teal on glossy white, clear enough to read from across the kitchen. And the count is always right.

Built for the count

A 12 oz latte mug in glossy white ceramic, with a cone shape that opens wide at the rim

The frame and the words are printed on both sides of the handle, so the count faces out in either hand

Dishwasher and microwave safe, for the refill when the count runs long

Made free of BPA and lead

Stands 4″ tall and 3.6″ across the rim

Who it's for

Morning counters, feeder watchers who keep a notebook on the sill, retirees with a fresh list going, and anyone who joins a winter feeder count. It suits a kitchen windowsill, a desk that faces the yard or the shelf beside the field guide. A birder gift with a sense of humor for a birthday, a retirement, Father's Day, Mother's Day or the holidays.

Quick answers

Why are there three tally marks?

One for each bird in the frame: two black songbirds and a teal one. Three birds, three marks, so the count adds up.

Is the teal bird a cardinal?

It has a cardinal's crest and shape, drawn in teal to match the frame rather than in field-guide red. The two black birds are not a named species, so all three can stand in for your own regulars.

Can I write on the tally?

No. The marks are printed, not a write-on surface. Keep the real count in a notebook or an app; the mug keeps you company while you do it.

How much does the latte shape hold?

12 oz, a little more than a standard coffee cup. The cone shape is wide at the rim, with room for milk foam, and it stands 4″ tall.

Can a left-handed counter see the design?

Yes. The frame and the words are printed twice, once on each side of the handle, so the count faces out in either hand.

Who would get the joke?

Anyone who counts birds over breakfast: the neighbor with a feeder log, a parent who has just retired into birding, or the friend who texts you the daily totals.

Shipping and returns

Free US shipping.
