The goldfinches saw a menu.

Every gardener who grows sunflowers learns it eventually: the blooms are for you, but the seed heads are for the birds. This framed sunflower and goldfinch poster turns that happy surprise into wall art, for the gardener who now leaves the flower heads standing on purpose.

The design: Grew A Buffet

Two tall sunflowers stand side by side. The one on the left is in full bloom, with bright yellow petals around a dark center. The one on the right has finished flowering and turned into a heavy seed head, and a bright yellow-and-black American Goldfinch is perched right on top of it, feeding.

Underneath, the words Grew A Buffet are set in a classic dark serif. Green leaves, golden petals and the goldfinch's yellow sit on a soft ivory background.

Framed and ready to hang

Printed on thick matte paper with a soft, low-glare finish that keeps the yellows warm and the lettering crisp

Set in a solid black wooden frame, about three-quarters of an inch deep, made from wood from renewable forests

A clear acrylic front protects the print, and the hanging hardware is included

Portrait format in two sizes: 12×16 in for a kitchen or potting-shed wall, 18×24 in for a sunroom or hallway

Who it's for

Gardeners who grow sunflowers, backyard bird watchers, goldfinch fans and anyone who has ever said "I'll leave the seed heads for the birds." A gift for a birthday, Mother's Day, a housewarming, a new garden or a gardening friend who already plants for the birds.

Quick answers

Do goldfinches really eat sunflower seeds?

Yes. American Goldfinches love sunflower seeds, and they'll cling right to the drying flower heads to pick them out, which is exactly what the bird on the right is doing.

Why are the two sunflowers different?

They show the same plant at two stages: the bright bloom you planted, and the seed head it becomes. The second one is the "buffet" in the title.

What does the lettering say?

Just three words, Grew A Buffet, in a dark classic serif under the flowers. It's small enough to stay quiet and big enough to read from across the room.

Would it suit a gardener who isn't a big birder?

Very much. It's as much about the sunflowers as the bird, so it fits a kitchen, sunroom or garden room as easily as a birder's den.

Shipping and returns

Free US shipping.
