This lunar observer mug gives that quiet, unofficial help desk a name.

The design: Lunar Viewfinding Service

A round, moon-gray dome speckled with craters sits at the top, with a little knob like a front-desk service bell. It has lifted just enough to let one plain white reference card slide out onto the small counter beneath it, as if the Moon itself were handing over directions.

Below, three rows of tall indigo capitals read LUNAR VIEWFINDING SERVICE. Lavender-gray and deep navy line work on the white of the mug, with clean space all around the art.

A mug for the help desk

Glossy white ceramic with a vivid print, so the crater spots stay crisp and the lettering stays easy to read

Printed on both sides, so the dome and the words face out whichever hand you hold it in

Microwave safe, for the tea that went cold while you were explaining the terminator

Dishwasher safe, so it is clean before the next first-quarter Moon

Three sizes: 11 oz for a classic cup, 15 oz for a taller refill, 20 oz for a long session at the eyepiece

Who it's for

Lunar observers, astronomy mentors, club members who run the Moon table at outreach nights, backyard astronomers and anyone who has ever talked a friend from Tycho to Clavius. It suits a desk beside the Moon atlas, a kitchen counter or the shelf in a backyard observatory. A thank-you for an observing mentor, a birthday gift, a holiday gift, or something to bring along to International Observe the Moon Night.

Quick answers

Who runs the Lunar Viewfinding Service?

Nobody official. It is an invented name for the help experienced lunar observers give for free: which crater is which, where to look along the shadow line, and what to try next.

What is the card slipping out from under the dome?

A plain reference card, left blank on purpose. Think of it as the feature list or finder sketch a mentor hands to someone who is new to the Moon.

Does it make a good thank-you for an outreach volunteer?

Yes. Whoever runs the Moon telescope at a public night spends the evening pointing out craters to strangers. This mug names that job and gives them something warm to hold at the next one.

Does it suit International Observe the Moon Night?

It does. That yearly event, usually held in early autumn, turns lunar observers into an all-evening help desk at public telescopes, which is exactly the job this mug names. Give it a week or two ahead so it can go out to the telescope with them.

Care

Dishwasher and microwave safe.

Shipping and returns

Free US shipping.
