It belongs with readers who hum while they turn pages and with musicians who read on the way to rehearsal.

The design: a songbook, a ribbon of notes and four watercolor corners

At the center lies an open book, drawn in ink with a dark maroon cover edge and cream pages. Where you would expect lines of text, both pages are ruled with staves and filled with notes. A ribbon of music staff curls up out of the book, carrying black notes, and loops around the lettering on either side, while small black stars and dots are scattered through the middle.

Above the book, two lines of black decorative serif lettering with curled ends read "Whispered Tales", the first word set in a gentle arch.

Each corner of the off-white rectangle has its own soft wash of color. The top left is teal and green, with a pale crescent moon, a leafy vine and tiny flowers. The top right turns peach, pink and yellow around a darker crescent moon and a leafy sprig. Down at the bottom left, coral pink and orange surround a teal-capped mushroom, leafy stems and small pink flowers, and the bottom right goes purple and teal behind a red-capped mushroom and flowering sprigs. Ink lines over watercolor give the whole picture a storybook look in muted teal, sage, coral, peach and lilac.

A travel mug with a handle for the bus, the car and the practice room

Made with stainless steel, so this is a metal mug meant for drinks on the go

The handle gives your fingers something solid to hold on a crowded bus

Most car cup holders take it, thanks to the narrower lower half

A plastic lid closes the top

The picture appears once on each side of the body

Not for the dishwasher: wash it by hand

Who it's for

Piano students, choir singers, band and orchestra players, music teachers, and readers who like a tune running in the background. It can ride along to a lesson, sit on a music stand shelf through a long rehearsal or keep a librarian company at the front desk.
