Description

Every fork on this map is an open question.

This fantasy map print lays out a storybook overworld where pale trails split, cross and loop between forests, sands and deep-teal country, made for people who enjoy plotting the route as much as the trip. Square and matte, it is a fitting present for a game master or a fantasy reader.

The design: an overworld of branching trails and marked stops

The map is seen from straight above, in a flat, clean storybook style with the look of a fantasy role-playing game. Regions of forest green, sandy tan and deep teal fit together like a patchwork, and cream-colored trails wind across all of them, forking at junction after junction and sometimes curving back on themselves.

About eighteen round, pin-shaped markers stand along the routes on short posts. Most are dark with a gold symbol and a handful are red, and the symbols are simple abstract shapes such as a chevron, a crescent, a ring and a star-like flower. Clusters of blue-white, crystal-like peaks rise in the upper left, along the left side and near the middle, joined by a couple of small dark towers, a little knot-patterned banner near the top and many tiny pine trees. A large eight-point compass rose in cream and navy anchors the lower right.

A dark navy border wraps the scene, filled with teal and rust-brown leaves, thin vines dotted with small red berries, a narrow braided line and a diamond ornament halfway along each side. A three-word title in cream-gold serif capitals runs across the bottom band. Nothing on the map itself is named, so each marker can be whatever your story calls for: a village, a ruin, a camp, or the spot where the party splits up.

Printed so the thin trail lines stay easy to follow

  • Paper: enhanced matte at 189 g/m² and 10.3 mil; with no glossy sheen in the way, the small marker symbols and narrow trails can be read without glare
  • Opacity of 94% keeps the navy border solid when the print hangs on a light wall
  • ISO brightness of 104% sets the cream trails and gold symbols on a clean white ground
  • Japan is the source of the paper stock
  • Square in every size, 10″×10″ (25.4 × 25.4 cm), 12″×12″ (30.5 × 30.5 cm), 14″×14″ (35.6 × 35.6 cm), 16″×16″ (40.6 × 40.6 cm) or 18″×18″ (45.7 × 45.7 cm); the leaf border is the outer edge of the print, and the compass and bottom title are complete
  • Sold unframed; add a square frame of your own if you want one

Who it's for

Game masters, tabletop RPG groups, fantasy readers, world-builders who sketch their own maps, and open-world players who check the map screen before anything else. It belongs in a game room, next to a shelf of rulebooks and dice, in a reading nook or over a writing desk. Occasions that fit: a birthday, a campaign anniversary, a housewarming, or as thanks for the friend who runs your table.

Quick answers

Is this a map of a real place or a known game world?

Neither. It is an invented overworld with no place names, labels or logos, so it is not tied to any book, show or game. That makes it easy to adopt as the setting for your own campaign or story.

Can we play on it during a session?

It is wall art on paper, with no grid, scale or hex numbers, so it will not stand in for a gridded play mat. Think of it as a mood piece behind the table, or a loose picture of the region your party is crossing.

What do the symbols on the markers mean?

They have no set meaning. The shapes are abstract, not letters or a code, so nothing needs decoding. Assign them yourself: one shape for towns, another for ruins, another for places nobody has come back from.

How much detail shows at the smallest size?

At 10″×10″ (25.4 × 25.4 cm) the trails and markers are small and best enjoyed up close, on a shelf or beside a desk. From 14″×14″ (35.6 × 35.6 cm) to 18″×18″ (45.7 × 45.7 cm), the forks and symbols are easier to follow from a few steps back.
