Description

The screen went dark. These three bright words are already counting you back in.

This retro typography poster, Retro Retry Stripes, stacks a short gamer phrase about taking another shot in bold banded capitals across a deep black background. Thick matte paper keeps that black rich and glare-free, and it makes a cheerful present for anyone who refuses to quit after a lost level.

The design: Retro Retry Stripes, lit up against black

Three short words sit on three centered lines, set in heavy, blocky capitals in which every O is a full circle. Together they form one tight, centered block, and the black around them works like a quiet frame.

Each letter is sliced into horizontal bands: fresh green across the top, a pink-red stripe through the middle and a warm orange-peach glow at the base, split by fine lines in the banded style of 70s and 80s retro type. Below and to the right of every letter trails a staircase of thin teal, blue and purple lines, a shadow that lifts the words off the page.

Around the edges, faint teal-green dashes and dots flicker across the black like glitch specks on a screen between levels.

The words are gamer slang for another chance after a defeat, and they travel well beyond the console. They read as a nudge to keep going after any setback: a lost match, a rejected pitch, a hard week at the gym or a project that needs a second draft.

Matte paper that keeps the black deep and the stripes sharp

  • Choose from 11 portrait sizes, 5″×7″ (12.7 × 17.8 cm) through 24″×36″ (61.0 × 91.4 cm), with A2 (16.5″×23.3″, 41.9 × 59.2 cm) and A1 (23.3″×33.1″, 59.2 × 84.1 cm) among them, or 5 squares between 10″×10″ (25.4 × 25.4 cm) and 18″×18″ (45.7 × 45.7 cm)
  • Enhanced matte paper, 189 g/m² and 10.3 mil thick: a weighty sheet whose matte surface keeps desk-lamp reflections off the dark background
  • 94% opacity, so the wall behind never shows through the black areas
  • 104% ISO brightness gives the striped letters a clean, bright base, so every band of color stays vivid
  • Paper sourced from Japan
  • Arrives unframed and is printed to order after you check out

Who it's for

Players who restart a tough level without a sigh, streamers, retro-game fans and anyone whose gaming desk, dorm room or home office could use a daily pep talk. It also fits a teen's bedroom, a garage gym or a game-night den. As a present, it fits a first apartment, the end of exam season or a friend bouncing back from a rough year.

Quick answers

Is it pixel art?

No. The art is pure lettering: smooth, solid capitals with a stacked line shadow, and no figures, logos or game names. The only screen-like touch is a scatter of tiny glitch specks near the edges, so it suits a retro-gaming corner without looking like a screenshot.

Do square and portrait sizes look different?

The lettering block stays the same and stays centered. Square sizes leave more black at the sides, while portrait sizes add more black above and below, which gives the words extra breathing room on a tall, narrow wall.

Which size reads well from a desk chair?

Above a monitor, 11″×14″ (27.9 × 35.6 cm) or 12″×16″ (30.5 × 40.6 cm) is easy to read from where you sit. For a big statement over a bed or couch, go for 24″×36″ (61.0 × 91.4 cm) or A1 (23.3″×33.1″, 59.2 × 84.1 cm).

Are the stocking and pine sprig in the photos included?

No. They are styling props for the photos only. You receive the poster on its own, and the art has no seasonal details, so it can stay up all year.
