Description

Player 2 didn't get the choice of seat.

This video game room decor print, The Second Seat, shows two worn retro controllers lying side by side on a faded sofa, right where two players left them. Printed on thick matte paper, it makes a warm gift for the sibling, partner or old friend who always ended up with the other controller.

The design: two controllers side by side on a worn sofa

Faded like a print from an old family album, the picture is grainy and flecked with dust and fine scratches, its color muted and its shadows a deep brown-black, with warm light falling in from the right. On the front seat cushion of a well-used sofa lie two wired 1990s-style gamepads. The left one is cream with four red buttons; the right one is pale blue-gray with red and blue buttons. Both have a cross-shaped direction pad, a small label strip and two little center buttons, and their thin cables loop across the cushion and hang down over the front of the seat.

The sofa has seen a lot of evenings. Its dusty upholstery has faded to muted teal-green, patched with rust and ochre, with piping along the cushion edges and a dark wooden base below. Three back cushions slouch against the frame, and a rust-red velvet pillow leans in at the left. Behind it, half lost in shadow, a low wooden ledge holds a teal glass lamp and a boxy old electronic set with small knobs.

Nobody is in the frame, only the two pads, set down side by side. If you were Player 2, you remember: the second pad, the second turn, whatever seat was left over. If you weren't, you owed Player 2 more than you ever admitted. This print is the apology and the thank-you.

A thick matte print for the living-room wall

  • 16 sizes: eleven portrait sizes from 5″×7″ (12.7 × 17.8 cm) to 24″×36″ (61.0 × 91.4 cm), A2 (16.5″×23.3″, 41.9 × 59.2 cm) and A1 (23.3″×33.1″, 59.2 × 84.1 cm) included, and five squares from 10″×10″ (25.4 × 25.4 cm) to 18″×18″ (45.7 × 45.7 cm)
  • Enhanced Matte Paper, 189 g/m² and 10.3 mil thick, with a flat, non-shiny face that keeps the shadows behind the sofa soft instead of glossy
  • 94% opacity, so the color of your wall never tints the dark corners of the scene
  • 104% ISO brightness, a clean base that keeps the cream pad and the warm highlights on the cushions true
  • Paper sourced from Japan
  • Frame not included; your video game room decor is made on demand after you order

Who it's for

Anyone who grew up on couch gaming with a brother, sister, partner or best friend, retro gamers who still keep a wired pad in a drawer, and everyone who was ever handed the second controller. It fits a game room, a living room wall above a real sofa, a shared apartment or a dorm, and it makes a thoughtful gift for a sibling's birthday, Father's Day, a gamer couple's anniversary, a housewarming or the holidays.

Quick answers

Does the print say Player 2 anywhere?

No. There is no readable lettering anywhere, not even on the controllers' tiny label strips. The second-seat idea lives in the name and in the pairing, so it stays a quiet in-joke between the two people who shared that sofa.

Are the controllers from a real console?

No. They're generic 1990s-style gamepads, shown without any logo, brand name or console markings. Think of them as the pair from your own childhood living room, whichever system that was.

Do the square sizes show more of the sofa?

Yes. The five squares show the full sofa width, with houseplant leaves at the upper left and the right armrest. Portrait sizes trim both sofa ends and the plant, yet every size keeps both controllers, the rust pillow and the lamp shelf in view.

Which size suits the wall above a sofa?

Over a real sofa, 20″×30″ (50.8 × 76.2 cm) or 24″×36″ (61.0 × 91.4 cm) reads well from across the room. Above a desk or dresser, try 12″×16″ (30.5 × 40.6 cm); for a shelf, the 8″×10″ (20.3 × 25.4 cm).
