Description

An empty arcade, a pink marble floor and a sun that never quite sets.

This vaporwave art opens an empty arcade hall onto a sunset sea, for anyone who grew up in the glow of coin-op machines and still loves that pastel, dreamy haze. The art is RaZits' own, and it's an easy gift for the retro gamer, the vaporwave fan or anyone who misses long afternoons with nothing to do but play.

The design: a hall of arcade cabinets that opens onto the sea

A symmetrical hall of white-and-pink marble runs straight toward an open end, where a big glowing sun sits just above the horizon in a pink sky of lit, fluffy clouds. The calm sea below carries a path of light toward you, and a low white marble step marks the place where the hall ends and the view begins. Heavy marble beams cross the ceiling around a lit rectangular panel and round recessed lights, and a marble-cased clock hangs from the center beam above the opening.

Four arcade cabinets stand ready with lit screens and bright marquees. On the left, two pale gray uprights show blue and red-orange screens above reddish-brown coin doors. On the right, a teal cabinet with red trim shows an orange screen next to a cream cabinet with a pink-red marquee, a control panel of joystick-and-button shapes and a little pink decal on its side. Potted palms and leafy plants in white marble planters flank the opening, and the glossy pink-and-white marble floor, polished almost like water, mirrors the sun and the lights down the middle.

Everything comes in soft pinks and faded teals, with the hazy, photo-real look of a vaporwave daydream: marble, palms, pastel light and retro machines, and not a single person in sight. It's that strange suspended afternoon, time forgetting to move, with every game in the hall waiting just for you.

Who it's for

Arcade veterans, vaporwave fans and retro gamers who still remember the glow of a lit cabinet on a slow afternoon. Hang it in a game room, a pastel bedroom, a home arcade bar or above a desk, and give it for a new game-room setup, a gamer's birthday or a vaporwave fan's move-in day.

Quick answers

Is this a real place?

No. It's an imagined marble hall with no shops, signs or people, open at one end to the sea. The cabinets are generic, and their screens and marquees blur into color, so no game title or logo appears anywhere.

What do the square prints add?

Width. Squares bring the outer marble pillars into view, with palms and pink-flowering shrubs at both edges, while portraits cut those side pillars and give more room to the mirror-like floor. The four cabinets, the clock and the sunset appear in every format.

Which size suits a game room?

Above a desk or console, 18″×24″ (45.7 × 61.0 cm) or 20″×30″ (50.8 × 76.2 cm) gives the long hall room to recede toward the sun. Next to a monitor or on a shelf, 11″×14″ (27.9 × 35.6 cm) fits the space without crowding it.

What time does the clock show?

Its hands sit close to twelve, with Roman-numeral-style marks around the face, but it isn't sharp enough to read an exact time. That suits a picture where the light never changes and the day seems to stand still.
