The sky in this badge has already gone dark, and the stars are out over one tall hoodoo.
This Bryce Canyon National Park shirt is a women's tee with the Lone Hoodoo Night Badge on the chest, a round emblem of the park once the day visitors have driven home. It is made for people who plan a trip around the stars, and it is a thoughtful present for the friend who packs a red flashlight.
Lone Hoodoo Night Badge: what the circle holds
Most of the circle is sky. Small white dots of starlight cover a deep blue field, and a pale lavender band of denser stars crosses it on a diagonal, climbing from the lower left to the upper right the way the Milky Way does on a clear night. A cream crescent moon hangs up and to the left of the rock.
The rock is a single hoodoo, a spire with a blocky cap that is wider than its neck. It is drawn in plum, and a bright orange light runs down its right edge and around its foot. Behind it the canyon rims step away in periwinkle and violet, a purple slope fills the foreground, and small dark pines stand at the lower left and the lower right.
A royal-blue band circles the scene, edged by a thin cream ring and a thin orange line. Cream capitals arch around it: "BRYCE CANYON" over the top, "NATIONAL PARK" along the bottom, and "EST. 1928" set small at the foot between two tiny orange stars. The whole emblem is a flat, vintage-style badge with a ground of its own, so it reads the same on every shirt. It sits centered on the chest, and the back of the tee is left plain.
Thick cotton that still wears easy
- 100% ring-spun cotton: the yarn is spun fine and smooth, which is why a fabric this thick still feels soft on the skin
- A structured 6.1 oz/yd² (206.8 g/m²) knit that stays breathable
- Garment-dyed, which means the tee is colored after it is sewn and comes out with a softly faded look from the first wear
- Relaxed fit, with room through the body instead of a close cut
- Inside, the neck and shoulder seams are covered with a band of fabric, which adds strength where a tee gets pulled most and leaves a clean finish
- The collar, armholes, sleeve ends and bottom edge are each sewn twice over, so they lie flat
Who it's for
Stargazers, night hikers, astronomy club members, Utah road-trippers and anyone who has stood on the rim at night and looked up. Wear it on the drive south, around camp or on an ordinary weekend in town. It suits a birthday, a trip send-off, the holidays or Mother's Day for the mom who owns a telescope.
Quick answers
How does this tee fit?
It is a women's tee in a relaxed cut, so expect an easy drape and not a tailored shape. For the closest match, compare a favorite shirt with the size guide next to the size options. Sizes can vary by up to 2 inches (5 cm).
Why does the badge show the park at night?
Bryce Canyon is high, dry and far from city lights, which gives it some of the darkest skies in the country. The badge is drawn for the part of a visit when the stars are the main event.
What is a hoodoo?
A slender column of rock that stays standing while the softer stone around it wears away. The park's main amphitheater holds the largest concentration of them on Earth. This badge draws just one and names no particular formation.
What does the year on the badge mark?
It is the year this corner of southern Utah became a national park. Before that it had been a national monument since 1923.
