Description

Four trees, a handful of notes, and a tune only the woods know.

This music note mug sets a small grove to music: four round-crowned trees with black notes drifting between their trunks, above the words Forest Melodies. Fill it before morning practice, or pass it to the person who whistles their way up every trail.

Forest Melodies: what is drawn on the mug

A row of four trees stands on a strip of low, rounded hills marked with small ticks of grass. Each tree wears a rounded, cloud-shaped crown in olive green with a dark outline, and its brown trunk sends bare branches fanning upward inside the crown. Black music notes hang between and beside the trunks, some of them single eighth notes and some beamed in pairs, about six groups in all. They float free, with no staff lines and no clef.

Under the hills the name is set on two stacked lines, Forest over Melodies, in solid black lettering with a blackletter flavor: a capital F and M, the remaining letters lower-case. A small leafy sprig with olive leaves and pale cream-pink buds grows at each side of the first word. The picture is flat and boldly outlined, a little like a folk woodcut, in olive, brown and black with that one touch of pink.

The idea is simple: a stand of trees treated like a line of sheet music. If you have ever caught yourself humming on a trail, or carried a guitar out to a picnic table, you already know what the drawing is getting at.

A music note mug for everyday pours

  • Cup gone lukewarm while you ran scales? The mug is microwave safe
  • After the last sip, the dishwasher handles the cleanup
  • The trees and notes appear twice, one print per side, with a band of bare glaze across from the handle
  • Glossy ceramic gives the black notes and lettering a clean white page to sit on
  • The dark outlines keep the earthy palette easy to read against the glaze

Who it's for

Singers, players and listeners who also like being outdoors: choir members, campfire guitarists, music teachers, band parents and hikers with earbuds in a pocket. It looks right on a practice-room shelf, a porch table or the windowsill above the sink. Give it after a recital, to a music teacher at the end of term, for a campfire guitarist's birthday or as an Earth Day surprise.

Quick answers

Do the notes spell out a real tune?

No. They are scattered between the trunks without staff lines or a clef, so they cannot be read as any particular song. They suggest music in general and leave the tune to you.

Will it suit someone who plays a specific instrument?

Yes. No instrument is pictured, which keeps it open to pianists, guitarists, singers, drummers and people who only listen.

Are the colors bright?

No. The palette is muted and earthy with bold dark outlines, so the mug reads quiet on a shelf and still shows its picture clearly at arm's length.

For people who hum on the trail and hear a tune in every stand of trees.

Why music people pick it up

  • Grove in tune — rounded treetops and scattered eighth notes in a folk woodcut manner, signed off with two words of old-style type.
  • Glaze that earns its keep — safe to microwave and to machine wash, with the scene repeated so it shows from either hand.
  • Comes with a soundtrack — slip in a handwritten list of walking songs and the gift arrives with its own music.
