One guitar, one spotlight, nothing else on stage.

For players who say more with six strings than with small talk, this guitar coffee cup puts a lone acoustic under a stage light and frames it in a shield badge with a four-word motto. Keep it within reach of the capo and the tuner, or wrap it for whoever restrung your very first guitar.

On the badge: a lone acoustic under the lights

An acoustic guitar stands upright at the center, neck up, drawn almost entirely in black with fine orange and gold outlines. Its rounded body has a single cutaway on one shoulder, a round sound hole ringed in gold, a small orange-red bridge and a long fretboard that ends in a headstock with tuning pegs. A dark oval shadow lies beneath it, the kind an instrument casts on a stage floor.

A cone of light falls on it from above and widens toward the floor, yellow with an orange band lower down. Blue ray stripes fan out behind the light on both sides, and small stars in red, blue and yellow sit beside the headstock. All of it is held in a shield-shaped badge with a double orange-red outline, squared notches, two striped ribbon ends at the top corners and a tiny shield at the bottom point.

Four words in bold white condensed capitals share the frame. JUST and GUITAR slant along either side of the neck, MY tucks in small near the headstock, and TRUTH runs largest across the bottom. The flat colors and hard edges borrow from vintage gig posters, and the thought is one every player knows: after the room empties, the instrument is still there, and it never flatters you.

A sturdy black ceramic mug that keeps up with practice sessions

• Sturdy ceramic body in glossy black, the backdrop the badge was drawn for
• Printed on both sides: the same badge shows twice, with plain black between the prints
• Free of lead and BPA, which is good to know for a mug that is used daily
• Dishwasher safe, so a late practice session ends with nothing to hand-wash
• Microwave safe, for the tea that needs another thirty seconds

Who it's for

Strummers, fingerpickers, singer-songwriters, coffeehouse regulars, students learning their first barre shapes and the teachers who sit across from them. It fits a lesson-room side table, a home studio desk or the kitchen counter next to the coffee maker. Give it at a recital, for a music-school graduation, to a teacher at the end of term or after a first paid gig.

Quick answers

What kind of guitar is on the badge?

An acoustic one: its round sound hole carries a gold ring, and one shoulder of the body is cut away. No maker's name appears on the headstock, so it reads as whichever acoustic you play.

Who is playing the guitar?

Nobody yet. The instrument has the stage to itself, lit from above and waiting, and that is what the four words are about: the guitar and whoever picks it up next.

Is the art the same on both sizes?

Yes. The same badge, with the guitar, the light and all four words, is printed on each size; only the mug's height differs, as the size guide lists.

Does it suit a beginner as well as a gigging player?

Yes. The motto is about being honest with the instrument, and that applies on day one of lessons as much as at a hundredth show.
