Description

A leg made of books, ending in a single sneaker, on a tote bag for readers.

Library Legs is a librarian tote bag with a playful illustration on the front: a tall stack of books where a leg should be, finished off with a running shoe. It suits trips between the shelves, and it makes a gift for the person who always knows where your next read is kept.

The design: a leg made of books

The books lie flat, one on top of another, in a tall and slightly uneven stack that stands where a leg would be. Each is drawn from the side, with lined page edges and covers in terracotta orange, cream and black. Two thin teal lines add an accent, and one cover edge carries a small bookmark-ribbon mark. The widest book is at the top, and the stack narrows on its way down.

At the bottom, the last book slips into the collar of a single sneaker, seen from the side with its toe pointing right. It has a terracotta-orange upper, a cream toe box, a chunky cream sole and cream laces tied in a bow.

To the right of the books, two left-aligned lines of cream lettering in a condensed sans-serif read "Library" and "Legs." with a period to close. It is a flat, retro-style illustration with clean outlines. The whole front of the bag is printed black, the picture sits in the middle, and black handles finish it off. Anybody who has left the branch with a taller pile than planned will smile at it.

Made to shoulder the borrowing

  • 15″ × 15″ (39 × 39 cm) of 100% polyester makes up the body, and a single bag may measure up to 1″ (2.5 cm) more or less
  • 10 liters (2.6 US gal) of space inside, to use however the day goes: loans, lesson plans or lunch
  • 44 lb (20 kg) is the stated maximum load
  • 26″ (67 cm) handles in 100% natural cotton bull denim, 1″ (2.5 cm) wide, go over the shoulder so both hands stay free
  • Small differences in the handles are normal, depending on where the bag is produced

Who it's for

Librarians, library assistants, school media specialists, students, and readers whose card has gone soft at the corners. It belongs at the circulation desk, in the staff room or on the walk to the branch. Give it for National Library Week, a library school graduation, a retirement from the branch or an end-of-year thank-you.

Quick answers

Is there a person in the picture?

No. Only one leg is shown, a stack of books ending in a sneaker. There is no figure, no face and no second shoe.

Do the books show any titles?

No. The covers and page edges carry no lettering, so the stack can stand for whatever you happen to be reading this week.

What could I carry in it besides books?

Whatever suits a square shoulder bag: knitting, a lunch box, craft supplies for story time or the weekend market run. These are ideas, so keep an eye on the weight on heavy days.

Why library people like it

  • Bookish at a glance — a leg-shaped pile of volumes stepping out in one sneaker, drawn in flat retro shapes.
  • Made for the walk — long cotton denim straps put the load on your shoulder while you juggle keys and a library card.
  • A thank-you they will use — a small surprise for the colleague who covers your desk or the volunteer who shelves on Saturdays.
