Description

The Scaliger keep stands to the right of the big red MALCESINE, sharing the same cream sky, its swallowtail merlons catching the last of the sun. Below it the terracotta waterfront glows and a single white sailboat drifts in on deep blue water streaked orange by the sunset. An original vintage-style travel poster of Malcesine on Lake Garda's eastern shore — Lake Garda wall art that puts the castle first and the water second.

The design is drawn flat — an eye-level view from out on the water, the crenellated keep of the Scaliger Castle rising top-right above lower battlemented walls, dark cypresses and a pale rocky promontory, with salmon, ochre and cream houses stepping down to a small quay with umbrellas and mooring posts. A lone sailboat sits lower-left on rippling blue water streaked with orange reflections, and layered mountains fade back into a golden sky of soft cumulus. MALCESINE runs across the top left in deep red, with LAGO DI GARDA set beneath it in navy between two short orange rules and VENETO • ITALIA below that, and the castle keep standing just to the right of the title under the same cream sky, all worked in golden orange, terracotta, cream, navy and deep lake blue. Printed to order on heavyweight matte art paper with a smooth, uncoated surface that keeps those hard colour edges crisp and readable from across the room. No glare, no plastic sheen, no photograph: just paper and ink.

  • Paper: 189 g/m2 (10.3 mil) heavyweight matte art stock — substantial enough to hang unframed without curling
  • Finish: uncoated matte — no glare under lamps, windows or gallery lighting
  • Opacity: 94%, so a wall colour or a second sheet behind it never shows through
  • Brightness: 104% ISO — a bright white base that keeps the flat colour blocks saturated
  • Origin: paper milled in Japan; every poster is printed to order, never warehoused

Size chart

Poster size Art panel (centered) Works well
14"" × 14"" 14 × 14 in desk shelves, small nooks, gallery-wall filler
16"" × 16"" 16 × 16 in bedrooms, home offices, above a console or sofa
18"" × 18"" 18 × 18 in living rooms, stairwells, a single statement wall

The illustration is a square panel centred on the sheet with a clean margin above and below, so it sits well in an off-the-shelf frame with or without a mat. Ships rolled in a protective tube, unframed.

Quick answers

Which size should I order? The 14″ × 14″ is the safe default for most walls. Take the 16″ × 16″ for a desk, a shelf or as part of a gallery cluster, and the 18″ × 18″ when the poster is meant to be the focal point of the room.

Does it come framed? No — it ships rolled and unframed in a protective tube. All three sizes are standard US frame sizes, so a shop-bought frame fits without a custom mat. A ready-to-hang framed version of this design is listed separately.

Is this a reprint of an old travel poster? No. It is an original illustration drawn in the mid-century travel-poster tradition — flat colour, clean edges, bold lettering — and a new composition made for RaZits. It is not a scan of a historic print.

What is the tower rising above the town? It is the keep of the Castello Scaligero, the medieval castle that gives Malcesine its skyline on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake. The castle takes its name from the Scaligeri, the della Scala family who ruled Verona in the 13th and 14th centuries, and Goethe famously stopped to sketch it in 1786 on his Italian journey.
