Is the castle in the picture real? Yes — it is the Scaliger Castle (Castello Scaligero) in Sirmione, on the southern shore of Lake Garda in Lombardy. The Scaliger family of Verona began building it in the 13th century, and its fortified harbour is a rare surviving example of a medieval lake port defence; visitors can climb the main tower for the view over the peninsula and the lake.
