This chinoiserie mahjong poster is for the player who loves the ritual of setting up as much as the play itself. Two hands in embroidered sleeves place the final tile on an arch built from the game's own pieces, framed by flowering branches in jade, terracotta and gold.

Two hands reach in from either side, one in a jade-green sleeve with a gold vine border and one in a terracotta sleeve with gold leaf sprays, and together they set a six-circle tile at the top of an arch. Each side of the arch is a stack of five tiles, six-circle and two-bamboo in turn, drawn in jade and gold on ivory. Branches of white flowers and green leaves, gold cloud scrolls and a fine jade-and-gold border with fret corners frame the cream sheet. There are no words. The artwork fills the whole 8 × 12 inch sheet.
