The tiles are racked, the card is out, and first the readers go on.
This mahjong gift for women is for every player who reaches for her glasses before she studies the card. The Mahj With My Readers artwork makes that small ritual the joke, in soft pastels that stand out on the dark mug.
The artwork: big words, smiling glasses
MAHJ leads in large, rounded cream letters, followed by WITH MY and an even bolder READERS. Below the words, a pair of pink reading glasses with tiny smiling faces in each lens rests by a pink-framed blank card, beside a cream tile marked with six green dots and a few little sparkles. Words and glasses together cover roughly 2.7 inches wide by 2.8 inches tall on the 11 oz, and 3 by 3.1 inches on the 15 oz.
Readers on, mug in hand
- Glossy black ceramic makes the pink glasses and cream lettering easy to read, even before your readers are on.
- 11 oz: 3.85 in (9.8 cm) tall and 3.35 in (8.5 cm) across, a cozy cup for studying the card.
- 15 oz: 4.7 in (12 cm) tall and also 3.35 in (8.5 cm) across, for a long afternoon of hands.
- Dishwasher and microwave safe, so a cold cup is warm again before you have found your glasses.
- Lead and BPA-free material for tea between looks at the card.
Who it's for
The friend who keeps a spare pair of readers in her mahjong bag, the club regular who studies the card before every hand and anyone who laughs at the moment everyone reaches for their glasses at once. Wrap it for her birthday or a club swap, or give it to a new player who has just bought her first set.
Quick answers
What is written on the mug?
MAHJ, then WITH MY, then READERS in the biggest type, so it reads MAHJ WITH MY READERS.
Can you see the glasses from both sides of the mug?
Only from the front. The artwork is printed a single time, centered on the side across from the handle, and the handle side is plain glossy black.
Is it a good gift for a newer player?
Yes. The joke is about reading the card, which every player does, so it lands for beginners and longtime players alike.
