Description

Switch the phone to airplane mode and follow the tree line.

This nature backpack repeats a small mountain-and-pines badge with a slogan about logging off and heading out among the trees. The bag itself is made for ordinary days, the commute and the gym included, and it is a thoughtful gift for someone who talks about a screen-free weekend and means it.

The design: Leave the Wifi, Take the Woods

Each badge starts with a mountain of three peaks, the middle one tallest, drawn with a dark outline, white snow caps and a dark shadow side. A band of olive-green treetops crosses in front of it, and before that stands a row of dark-green pines, the taller ones at either end, on a straight ground line.

Below the trees come three lines of block lettering with a small airplane-mode icon, set in dark-green capitals that grow from the first line to the last. Together they give the advice in the design's name: put the Wi-Fi down and pick the woods instead.

The badge is laid out in staggered rows with clear white space between one and the next. You see it on the front panel and its zip pocket, on each side panel and across the top, framed by black shoulder straps, a black top handle and black zipper pulls. The palette stays with very dark green, olive and white, which keeps the whole bag calm, and the message is one that anyone with a full inbox understands.

Pockets and padding for the days in between

  • The fabric is 100% polyester, 9 oz/yd² (305 g/m²), and water-resistant, so a short shower on the way home is less of a threat to what is inside
  • Within the large main pocket, a separate compartment holds a 15″ laptop, so it does not slide around among books and a jacket
  • A zippered pocket on the front keeps a charger and a snack handy, and a hidden zippered pocket on the back of the bag is a quiet place for keys
  • Two sliders on the top zipper meet wherever you want, so you can open just one corner to reach in
  • The shoulder straps are padded, shaped for comfort and adjustable in length; a soft mesh back and a silky lining finish the bag
  • Measures 16⅛″ × 12¼″ × 3⅞″ (41 × 31 × 10 cm) and carries up to 44 lb (20 kg)

Who it's for

Forest walkers, cabin weekenders, birdwatchers and office workers who mute their notifications the moment Friday ends. It goes to class, to work and to the gym, and on Saturday it can hold a thermos and a paperback for a day among the trees. Give it before a screen-free vacation, at a graduation, or for a birthday that falls in hiking season.

Quick answers

Can I take it on a camping trip?

As the bag for the drive and the day, yes. It is a medium backpack meant for daily use and sports activities, so leave the tent and the cooking kit to a larger pack.

What is the little airplane symbol?

It is the airplane-mode pictogram, the phone setting that cuts off calls and data. It ties the lettering to the idea of going offline for a while.

How do I deal with a mud splash?

Wipe the spot lightly with a soft damp cloth and let the bag dry in the air.

For anyone who breathes easier once the phone goes quiet and the path turns to pine needles.

Why it goes where you go

  • An out-of-office emblem — snowy summits and evergreens over a short reminder to log off, stamped again and again in forest tones.
  • Commute-ready inside — a sleeve for your computer, zipped spots for small things, cushioned straps and cloth that resists water.
  • A nudge to unplug — wrap it for the friend with unused vacation days and tuck a trail map into the outer pocket.
