Grown with a grin, one hoe stroke at a time.

This garden poster brings The Organic Plot, an original RaZits cartoon of a cheerful gardener tending his seedling bed, to your kitchen or sunroom wall. It's printed to order and makes an easy gift for the friend who talks compost at dinner.

The design: one gardener, one hoe, one very organic plot

Across a pale mint-to-cream sky, the printed punchline "Plot Twist: It's Organic" runs in two lines of bold dark-green slab-serif letters with a soft pale glow. The whole joke hangs on one word: the plot is his patch of soil, and the big reveal is that he grows it the organic way.

Below it, a smiling gardener with a short gray beard leans into the job in an olive-khaki brimmed hat with a dark brown band, a teal-green shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a dark brown bib apron, blue jeans and brown work boots. He pulls a long-handled hoe through a bare brown bed, a clump of roots and weeds dangling from the blade and a coiled cord looped at his hip, while rows of tiny green seedlings push up around his boots.

Tall coral-red and pink daisy-like flowers with yellow centers rise on both sides, clusters of small white blooms fill the gaps, and two terracotta pots of flowers sit at the left. A frame of green leaves wraps the top and sides, with misty trees and hedges fading behind. It's a colorful storybook-style cartoon with soft painterly shading, in leaf greens, earthy browns, coral, teal and denim blue, cheering on everyone who spends Saturday morning on weeding duty and calls it relaxing.

Who it's for

Vegetable growers, backyard gardeners, community-garden regulars, compost converts and anyone who reads seed catalogs in January. It brightens a kitchen, a mudroom by the back door, a sunroom or a home office that looks out on the yard. Give it for a gardening friend's birthday, a housewarming with a new yard to dig, Mother's Day or Father's Day, a retirement that means more time outside, or the holidays.

Quick answers

Is the poster itself organic?

No, "organic" belongs to the joke, not the paper. It's the growing style the lettering celebrates, so the print suits organic growers and anyone who simply enjoys a good garden pun.

Which size fits a kitchen wall?

Between cabinets or above a coffee corner, 10″×10″ (25.4 × 25.4 cm) or 12″×12″ (30.5 × 30.5 cm) fits neatly. Over a sideboard or a breakfast table, 16″×16″ (40.6 × 40.6 cm) or 18″×18″ (45.7 × 45.7 cm) reads clearly from across the room.

What frame suits the art?

Any square frame made for the size you order. Natural wood echoes the soil and terracotta pots, a deep green frame continues the leafy border, and a white mat gives the scene some breathing room.

How do I keep it looking fresh?

Display it in a frame, and hang it away from strong direct sunlight and steamy spots such as the wall right above the stove or kettle.
