A shelf of herbs you never have to water.
Tie on a kitchen apron that already has tonight's garnish growing on it: a line-drawn pantry shelf crosses the bib, with three potted herbs lined up beneath a line of flowing script. The cloth is organic cotton, and it makes an easy present for the friend whose counter is crowded with pots.
The design: one cook's shelf, drawn in ink
The drawing is all black line with light gray hatching, the way a quick pen sketch looks in a recipe notebook. Up top, a bracketed wall shelf holds three little bowls on a raised ledge, a mixing bowl with a spoon left in it, stoppered jars, a tall bottle, a corked bottle of seeds or spice, a spiky plant in a round pot and a lidded kettle.
Between the shelves, the words My kitchen herb garden cross the scene in loose script. Under them stands the row that gives the apron its name: three labeled herb pots, one upright and needle-leaved, one bushy with tiny blossoms, one broad-leaved, joined by a smaller pot and a wide mixing bowl. Their leaves are the only color in the print, a muted sage green.
Off to the right, a rail carries three hanging utensils, and at the bottom a run of drawer fronts ends in a checked dish towel draped over the edge. It is a kitchen someone really cooks in, a little crowded and entirely lived in.
Made for sauce days and potting days
- Woven from 100% organic cotton at 7.08 oz/yd² (240 g/m²), with enough body to keep splashes off the shirt underneath
- One wide pocket on the front is divided into two sections, so a phone and a pair of snips don't knock together
- The straps adjust, which lets one apron sit right on different cooks in the same household
- Sold in a single size, so there is no guessing when you buy it for someone else
Who it's for
Home cooks with a pot on every ledge, balcony gardeners, Sunday bakers and anyone who likes a quiet, sketchbook kind of kitchen. Wear it for weeknight chopping, repotting seedlings at the counter or plating up when friends come over. As a present it fits Mother's Day, a housewarming, a birthday for the family's head cook or a thank-you to a generous host.
Quick answers
Where does the print sit on the apron?
On the bib and upper body, from just under the neckline down to the ties. The pocket area lower down is left plain, so whatever you tuck into it never hides the drawing.
Do the ties cover the drawing when I knot them in front?
A little. The bottom of the scene reaches tie level, so ties knotted in front cross the drawer fronts and the towel. Knot them behind you to keep the full drawing in view.
Is it only for cooking?
No. The divided pocket and long ties are as handy for potting up seedlings, arranging flowers or a messy craft afternoon as they are at the stove.
Is the artwork modern or country in mood?
Somewhere between. The pen-sketch lines keep it spare, while the crowded shelf and checked towel add cottage-kitchen warmth. It looks sketched rather than glossy.
