Some books you finish. Others leave you looking at the ceiling as if it were the night sky.
Cosmic Reader is a stars tote bag made with late-night readers in mind, the ones who close the book past midnight and still step outside to look up. Take it to the library's science-fiction shelf, an evening astronomy talk or the late bus home, with tomorrow's chapters inside.
The design: a night sky rising from the page
An open book faces you, drawn in clean outline with its page edges layered on both sides and a small solid oval marking the base of the spine. A crescent moon rests on the left page, and four-point stars are scattered across the paper as if the text had turned into starlight.
From there the stars lift off. They climb above the book in mixed sizes, joined by a few solid round dots that could be far-off moons or planets, and at the top left a ringed planet tilts over the scene.
Beneath the book, COSMIC READER stands in two centered lines of heavy serif capitals. The whole drawing is solid black against the plain white front of the bag, with no shading and no second color, which gives it the look of a bookplate or a library stamp.
What this stars tote bag holds, in numbers
- Body: 100% polyester, 15″ × 15″ (39 × 39 cm), a square that takes an oversized paperback or a night-sky field guide
- Space: about 10 liters (2.6 US gal), enough for three or four books plus a flask and a scarf for cold evenings outdoors
- Load: 20 kg (44 lb) at most, so the hardback trilogy can travel together
- Handles: a pair in 100% natural cotton bull denim, 1″ (2.5 cm) wide and 26″ (67 cm) long, so the bag hangs at your side from the shoulder
- Good to know: allow about 1″ (2.5 cm) either way on the finished size, and expect small differences in how the handles look
Who it's for
Science-fiction and fantasy readers, backyard stargazers, astronomy students, planetarium members, and grown-ups who once read under the covers with a flashlight. It suits a send-off for someone starting a physics or literature degree, a thank-you for the teacher who runs the astronomy club, or a companion present to a first telescope.
Quick answers
Are the stars real constellations?
No. They are loose four-point sparkles with no connecting lines between them. It is a picture about the feeling of reading at night, not a sky chart.
Is anything written on the book's pages?
The pages are blank apart from the crescent moon and a few stars. The only lettering is the two-word name set under the book.
Which planet is the ringed one?
None in particular. It is a simple ringed disc with no label, so you are free to call it your favorite.
