Description

This Lake Garda poster puts the town first — a cascade of terracotta roofs and coral houses stepping down from the Scaliger castle tower to the quay, with a pink bougainvillea leaning in from the top right. An original vintage-style travel poster of Malcesine, drawn as Lake Garda wall art with the old town, the castle and the sparkling blue lake in one view.

The design is drawn flat — an elevated view from a stone terrace wall in the bottom-left corner, over a cascade of terracotta rooftops and coral, ochre and cream lakefront houses stepping down to a small quay with wooden mooring posts, up to the crenellated cream tower of the Scaliger castle with dark cypresses at its foot. The deep blue lake fills the right half with a sunlit sparkle path and a single wooden rowboat at the bottom, hazy mauve-tan mountains lining the far shore under a pale sky. MALCESINE sits top-left in tall red capitals above LAGO DI GARDA between short rules and VENETO • ITALIA beneath, while a pink bougainvillea in full bloom spills down the right-hand side from the top-right corner — worked in deep lake blue, terracotta, coral, cream, bougainvillea pink and cypress green. Printed to order on heavyweight matte art paper with a smooth, uncoated surface that keeps those hard colour edges crisp and readable from across the room. No glare, no plastic sheen, no photograph: just paper and ink.

  • Paper: 189 g/m2 (10.3 mil) heavyweight matte art stock — substantial enough to hang unframed without curling
  • Finish: uncoated matte — no glare under lamps, windows or gallery lighting
  • Opacity: 94%, so a wall colour or a second sheet behind it never shows through
  • Brightness: 104% ISO — a bright white base that keeps the flat colour blocks saturated
  • Origin: paper milled in Japan; every poster is printed to order, never warehoused

Size chart

Framed size Art panel Works well
14" × 14" framed 14 × 14 in desk nooks, hallways, gallery walls, small spaces, gifting
16" × 16" framed 16 × 16 in (fills the frame) above a sofa, a bed head or a console
18" × 18" framed 18 × 18 in above a sofa, bed, or console, living rooms, statement walls

The illustration is a square panel centred on the sheet with a clean margin above and below, so it sits well in an off-the-shelf frame with or without a mat. Ships rolled in a protective tube, unframed.

Quick answers

Which size should I order? The 14″ × 14″ is the safe default for most walls. Take the 16″ × 16″ for a desk, a shelf or as part of a gallery cluster, and the 18″ × 18″ when the poster is meant to be the focal point of the room.

Does it come framed? No — it ships rolled and unframed in a protective tube. All three sizes are standard US frame sizes, so a shop-bought frame fits without a custom mat. A ready-to-hang framed version of this design is listed separately.

Is this a reprint of an old travel poster? No. It is an original illustration drawn in the mid-century travel-poster tradition — flat colour, clean edges, bold lettering — and a new composition made for RaZits. It is not a scan of a historic print.

What is the castle tower in the picture? It is the Castello Scaligero, Malcesine's medieval castle, whose tower rises above the old town on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. The castle takes its name from the Scaliger family of Verona, who held it in the 13th and 14th centuries, and Goethe famously sketched it on his Italian journey in 1786.
