Is Mount Fuji really that close to Lake Kawaguchi? Yes. Lake Kawaguchi (Kawaguchiko) is one of the Fuji Five Lakes at the northern foot of Mount Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture, roughly two hours from Tokyo, and on clear days the mountain rises directly across the water from the northern shore. The maples along that shore usually turn red in November, when the town holds its annual autumn leaves festival.
