Why is the water at Moraine Lake so blue?
Moraine Lake is glacier-fed, and the fine rock flour carried in by meltwater scatters light to give the water its turquoise colour. It sits in the Valley of the Ten Peaks in Banff National Park, Alberta, at roughly 1,885 metres, and the colour is at its strongest from late June once the lake has filled after the spring thaw.
