Kickoff is at eight. The coffee was at six.
This retro travel mug is all lettering: three slanted lines of striped capitals call out their motto from a bright pink triangle, in the manner of a 1980s sports graphic. It is for players, coaches and sideline parents whose game day begins with a full mug.
The design: striped capitals on a pink triangle
There is no picture here, only type and shapes. Three stacked lines of heavy italic capitals read "FUELED BY CAFFEINE & CLEATS," with the small "BY" tucked at the end of the top line and the ampersand opening the last one. Each line steps a little to the left as it goes down, which gives the whole block a forward lean.
The letters are filled with horizontal stripes. The top word runs from teal through pink to cream, and the two lines under it mix yellow-orange, cream and pink. A yellow outline and a solid black drop shadow make every letter look raised, and the small word is plain yellow.
Behind the words sits a large pink triangle pointing down, edged with a thin yellow line. Teal triangle shapes peek out at the left and the lower right, and a few thin teal and pink speed lines trail off the lower edges. No panel or box frames any of it, so the graphic sits directly on the white mug.
Stainless steel with a handle, for early starts
- Stainless steel, a sensible material for a mug that spends its mornings in a car and its weekends beside a field
- A handle on the side, to grab when your arms are full of cones and water bottles
- The lower part narrows to sit in most car cup holders
- Each size comes with its own lid: a plastic press-in lid on one, a plastic straw and screw-on lid on the other
- The lettering is printed twice, once on each side, so the motto reads from either bench
- Wash it by hand after the final whistle; it is not made for the dishwasher
Who it's for
Anyone who laces up cleats, or stands on the touchline for someone who does: rugby, soccer, football, baseball and lacrosse players, coaches, referees and the parents who drive to every early fixture. It can come along to dawn training, a tournament weekend, a match-day commute or the office on the Monday after. Hand it to a teammate on a birthday, to a coach when the season ends, to a new captain, or to the parent who runs the carpool.
Quick answers
Which sport is it for?
Whichever one you wear cleats for. The design names no sport, team or league and shows no ball, boot or player, so it works for a rugby forward, a soccer keeper or a softball catcher alike.
What is the one rule for hot coffee?
Lid open first. Open the lid before it goes onto a hot drink, so steam pressure cannot build up.
Does it suit someone who has hung up their cleats?
Yes. Former players, long-serving coaches and lifelong fans still run on the same two things, and the 1980s styling is a bonus for anyone who remembers the sports graphics of that decade.
