Is the cliff at Riva del Garda really that steep? Yes. Riva del Garda sits at the northern tip of Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, where the water narrows into a fjord-like channel between near-vertical mountain walls, and Monte Rocchetta rises steeply above the town's western edge. The steady afternoon Ora wind that blows up the lake from the south is a big part of why Riva is one of Europe's best-known sailing and windsurfing spots.
