One toucan, one branch, and the last of the daylight sliding into the water.
This toucan bag carries Vintage Toucan Sunset, a RaZits illustration of a single bird at rest as the sun goes down over still water. It hauls a day's worth of things to the market or the pool, and it gives the person who stops for every flash of feathers something to unwrap.
The design: a toucan keeping watch as the sun goes down
The picture is a circle with a loose, leafy edge. On its right side a toucan perches on a bare, slanting branch, seen in profile and facing left: black body and wings marked with fine feather lines, a cream-yellow throat and chest, a small green patch around the eye, and a large curved bill in orange and red that ends in a dark tip.
Behind the bird, a low pale-yellow sun hangs just above the horizon in a sky that runs from orange to gold with thin streaks, deepening to teal at the very top. Dark hills line the far shore, and the calm green-teal water holds a band of reflected gold down its middle. Two palm trees stand in the scene, the taller one at the left and a smaller one at the right. Along the bottom, two hibiscus flowers open side by side, one red-orange and one golden-orange, joined by a few spiky red-orange blooms and broad dark green leaves.
Everything is drawn with heavy dark outlines and lightly textured shading, in the manner of an old travel print, and there is no lettering anywhere. If you keep a life list, or simply slow down when a bird lands nearby, this is the quiet minute before dark, ready to go wherever you do.
What this toucan bag holds, and how
- 100% polyester body, 15″ × 15″ (39 × 39 cm); allow about 1″ (2.5 cm) of variation between bags
- Roughly 10 liters (2.6 US gal) of space inside, so a picnic lunch and a sweater ride along with room to spare
- The weight limit is 44 lb (20 kg), well beyond a stack of field guides and a full water bottle
- Two shoulder-length handles, 26″ (67 cm) by 1″ (2.5 cm), in 100% natural cotton bull denim; handle details can differ slightly depending on where the bag is made
- The round scene is placed in the center of the front, where it stays in view while the bag hangs at your side
Who it's for
Birdwatchers, zoo members, growers of tropical houseplants and travelers who still talk about the rainforest trip. Carry it on a pool day, a beach walk or the Saturday produce run, or keep it on a hook by the door for the library. Give it at a bon voyage before a warm-weather vacation, for a summer birthday, or as a thank-you for the neighbor who watered the hibiscus while you were away.
Quick answers
Where on the bag is the picture printed?
In the middle of the front, as a single round picture with plain fabric left showing around it on every side.
How big is it next to everyday things?
A little over a foot each way. A letter-size notebook or a magazine, 11″ (28 cm) tall, stands upright inside with space to spare above it.
Where does the toucan sit in the circle?
On the right-hand side, with the taller palm standing at the left, so the two balance each other and the picture does not feel lopsided.
