An old trunk for a TV stand, the floor for a game shelf, and that was the whole setup.
This 8 bit poster, Cartridges by Lamplight, shows a warm, cluttered corner where a chunky old TV sits on a battered wooden trunk, with a game console, cartridges and snacks spread across the floor. Printed on thick matte paper, it makes a fond gift for the gamer dad or the friend who still talks about their first cartridge.
The design: a TV raised on an old trunk, games on the floor
The view looks slightly down into the corner of an old room with walls of dark, weathered wooden planks. The TV is cream, yellowed and chipped with age, with a panel of round dials to the right of the screen and a vent grille beneath it. Its trunk has a metal handle on the front and turns orange where the light hits it.
The screen is switched on: a bright game level with towers, a blue sky, white clouds, a pale-yellow sun and floating yellow blocks, and a row of tiny icons along the top. A black cable runs from the TV down the trunk to the console, a flat gray box with an orange end, and another loops loosely off to the left. Two cartridges in dark blue and teal lie on an unfolded, map-like sheet beside a bowl of snack mix and a tall glass of red-orange drink, and a second small gray device sits next to the glass.
A teal gooseneck lamp leans in from the right and throws warm light over the trunk and the front of the TV. A torn, faded paper is pinned to the wall at the top left, and a narrow panel of pink flowers and green leaves shows at the top right. Nothing in the scene carries a readable word, logo or brand: the badge under the screen and the cartridge labels are only painted marks.
Thick, visible brush and palette-knife strokes give everything a painted texture, in warm amber and orange set against teal-green and deep brown shadow, with the blue screen and a spot of red drawing the eye. It's the kind of corner plenty of us played in: whatever could hold the TV, the games within arm's reach, a snack and a drink ready for one more level. The name comes from that teal lamp: its warm glow is what turns an old TV, a few cartridges and a snack into a corner worth staying up for.
An 8 bit poster on thick matte paper, from shelf size to the wall above the TV
- 16 sizes in total with A2 and A1 among them: portrait sizes run 5″×7″ (12.7 × 17.8 cm) through 24″×36″ (61.0 × 91.4 cm), and five squares run 10″×10″ (25.4 × 25.4 cm) through 18″×18″ (45.7 × 45.7 cm)
- Heavyweight matte paper, 189 g/m² and 10.3 mil thick and sourced from Japan, so the print feels solid in your hands rather than flimsy
- Nearly opaque paper (94% opacity), so your wall color won't show through the dark planks and shadows of the painting
- A bright white paper base (104% ISO brightness) that keeps the blue screen, the amber light and the red drink clear
- Frame not included, so you can match the frame to your shelf or media unit
- Crafted on demand, printed once your order is in
Who it's for
Retro gamers, console collectors and gamer dads who grew up with a cartridge console under the TV. It fits a game room, a den or a home office, and makes a thoughtful gift for Father's Day, a gamer's birthday or the first wall of a new game room.
Quick answers
Is it pixel art?
No. The whole scene, the game on the screen included, has a loose, painted look. The 8 bit in the title points to the cartridge-console era it brings back, not to the way it's drawn.
Do all sizes show the whole scene?
The five squares do, lamp stand and full drink glass included. Portrait sizes keep the same top and bottom but trim both sides, which drops the lamp's tall stand; the slimmest, 24″×36″ (61.0 × 91.4 cm) among them, also cut the glass at the right edge.
Which size works by a TV or on a shelf?
Beside or above a TV, 18″×24″ (45.7 × 61.0 cm) or 20″×30″ (50.8 × 76.2 cm) holds its own. Leaning on a shelf next to your old cartridges, 8″×10″ (20.3 × 25.4 cm) fits neatly, and 12″×12″ (30.5 × 30.5 cm) suits a narrow gap.
Will it reflect the glow of a TV screen?
Barely. Matte paper diffuses light rather than bouncing it back, so the art stays readable even with a bright screen right next to it.
Is it a good Father's Day gift?
For a dad whose first console took cartridges, it usually lands well. It's about his memories rather than today's games, so it suits him even if he hung up the controller years ago.
