You stand on sunlit granite, high above the water, and a small wooded island sits in the blue below.
This Lake Tahoe poster, named Island in the Blue Bay, is a retro-style travel illustration topped with big cream lettering. Hang it where you want a daily reminder of clear water and pine air, or give it to someone who counts the weeks until the next drive up.
Island in the Blue Bay, from the sky down
A clear blue sky fills the upper part of the sheet and lightens as it nears the mountains, with a few thin cloud streaks on its right side. The lettering is set there in three rows. “LAKE” comes first in small cream capitals set wide apart and framed by a pair of thin rules. “TAHOE” follows as the giant of the three, in cream slab capitals with a blue drop shadow. Below it, “CALIFORNIA” and “NEVADA” stand in small navy capitals with a little pine-tree symbol between them.
Beneath the words, a long range of blue mountains marks the far shore, and open water flecked with white sparkle marks spreads out in front of it. A forested point reaches in from the left, its dark green conifers broken by patches of tan rock and edged with a pale sandy shoreline and a band of turquoise shallows. A second low spit comes in from the right and leaves a gap between the two.
In the deep blue of the bay stands one small rocky island covered in dark trees, with its reflection under it. The foreground belongs to tall tan-and-cream granite cliffs and boulders at the lower left, with a single conifer in front of them. Dense dark pines fill the right and center, and a turquoise cove shows between them. The whole scene is built from flat poster shapes with a fine texture.

Who it's for
Anyone who has swum in, skied above or simply sat beside this lake and wants it at home, along with people who own a cabin near the shore and road-trippers who pin up every place they have driven through. Good spots for it: a stair landing, a home office or a bunk room. Give it at a housewarming, for an anniversary tied to a lake trip, for Father’s Day or as a going-away present for a friend leaving the area.
Quick answers
Is it a good gift for someone with a lake cabin?
Yes. The picture is all water, rock and trees, with no people, boats or buildings in it, so it sits easily next to cabin furniture and other lake pictures.
Is it a photograph or a drawing?
A drawing. The style borrows from retro travel posters: flat shapes and big lettering in place of photographic detail.
Is it a tall poster or a wide one?
Tall. Each of the sizes is portrait, with the sky and its words above and the granite underfoot.
